Over Two Decades After Their Hit Film “Freaky Friday”, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan Reunite in First Official Trailer for Sequel

rjovine 2 days ago

A day which many fans of the 2003 smash hit remake Freaky Friday thought would never happen has finally come to pass, leaving many-a despondent oddsmaker in Vegas shaking their collective heads and emptying their coffers sadly, even as fans of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan cheer loudly: The first official teaser trailer for the long-gestating body-switching sequel Freakier Friday has dropped today and – lucky-ducky you, Dear and Constant Reader – we have it right here.

This welcome news for all fans of the tried-and-true body hocus-pocus genre (looking at you, Vice-Versa, Like Father, Like Son, Big, The Hot Chick and 18 Again) comes flying at us today courtesy of those Your Name aficionados over at Variety.

Directed by master helmer Nisha Ganatra and winging its way to us via The Walt Disney Company, Freakier Friday will reunite Jamie Lee and Lindsay as mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman. This being a sequel with some miles between it and the ‘03 remake, Lohan’s Anna naturally has a daughter of her own now, not to mention a stepdaughter-in-waiting. Anna and her mother navigate these earth-shaking changes in their dynamic exactly as you think they might: By one-upping their body-swapping from the first film and opening the doors wide open to include Anna’s own children. Hey, it’s a sequel: You gotta go big or go home, right?

Freakier Friday isn’t just about passing the baton on to the next generation, however. In fact, this film feels more like those pesky high school reunions I keep dodging, with most of the original cast from the 2003 film returning for more hijinks. The returning actors certainly read like an honor role of the best of the best – Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao will all be on hand to welcome us back to this little corner of their cinematic universe; hey, who brought the dip?

Along with the tried-and-true Old Guard, some freshly scrubbed faces will also be joining the wonky proceedings of Freakier Friday. These new stalwarts include Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Sophia Hammons and Julia Butters; original Freaky Friday author Mary Rodgers would be proud her little novel has gone on to inspire whole new generations of movie fans.

As for an official release date, an exact time is still up in the air. What we can tell all of you Freaky fans is that Freakier Friday will land in movie theatres sometime this year. So mark your calendars – at least vaguely – and get set for even more madcap hijinks when the original Scream Queen herself and the former Bad Girl made good strap in for even more kooky misadventures!
